Global Trade & Economic Outlook:
Implications for International Business in the Year Ahead

In the current economic environment, businesses are concerned more than ever about the outlook for the economy, both at home and abroad.

  • What is the progress of US recovery?
  • What are global economic indicators predicting?
  • Which markets have been badly hit by recession and which offer a bright spot on the horizon?
  • Where should businesses retreat and where should they explore opportunity?

Get answers to these questions and more from two of the region’s top economists.

Michael Goodman is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Policy at UMass Dartmouth.  A leading analyst of both the Massachusetts and the New England economies, Goodman is co-editor of MassBenchmarks, the journal of the Massachusetts economy published by the UMass Donahue Institute in collaboration with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Geoffrey Somes is Senior Economist with State Street Global Advisors.  In his role, he forecasts and analyzes economic events in the global economy and evaluates their impacts on financial markets. He has been a professional economist since 1991, previously serving as Senior Economist with FleetBoston Financial Group and as Director of Macroeconomic Forecasting with Economy.com.  He also served as a Financial Economist with the US Department of the Treasury in Washington, DC.
